From Classroom to Career: Guest Speaker Hilal Karić Guides ELT Students Through the TEFL Job Market
On Tuesday, May 27, 2025, students enrolled in the English Language Teaching Methodology course (ELT322.1) at the International University of Sarajevo (IUS) were privileged to attend an inspiring guest lecture delivered by Ms. Hilal Karić, MBA, the Director of the Life-long Learning Center – IUS Life and the English Language School (ELS) at IUS.
Ms. Karić delivered a lecture titled "Stand Out in the TEFL Job Market: A Guide to Boosting Employability". Her engaging presentation offered students a wealth of practical advice and professional guidance, focusing on what it takes to succeed as a future educator in the competitive world of Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL).
Throughout the session, Ms. Karić emphasized the importance of professionalism, beginning with the creation of neat, clear, and compelling CVs that reflect both competence and character. She also encouraged students to reflect critically on whether the teaching profession aligns with their skills and values, offering candid insights into the realities of the profession.
In addition, Ms. Karić demystified the job interview process for teachers, sharing valuable tips on what employers typically seek and how candidates can best prepare to make a strong impression. Her presentation not only boosted students’ confidence but also equipped them with actionable strategies to enhance their employability.
