From Cats to Celebrities: Creative Writing Workshop at IUS Summer School

On Tuesday, July 1, 2025, the International University of Sarajevo (IUS) organized a Creative Writing workshop for students participating in the IUS English Summer School program. The workshop was led by Associate Professor Dr. Vesna Suljić from the English Language and Literature (ELIT) study program at the IUS Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS).

For about an hour, students worked in small groups of three to four. Although the session was held in the late afternoon after a full day of activities—and despite the summer heat—the students remained enthusiastic and creative, ultimately producing seven imaginative short stories.

Beyond their inventiveness, the students demonstrated remarkable empathy in their writing. A cat, often portrayed as injured or ill, emerged as a recurring character, allowing students to express deep emotional insight through their prose.

Congratulations to all the students for their creative effort and for crafting entertaining stories that even featured well-known figures such as Elon Musk, Steve Jobs, and Ali Koç.
