Free English Classes for Unemployed Women in Local Community

IUS English Language School (ELS) and IUS Life - Life Long Learning Center are proud to announce that we have completed our first SDG implementation project aimed for the local community along with many other smaller steps we have taken as part of the collective endeavor by IUS towards SDGs 2030 in the 2022/23 academic year.

ELS teachers volunteered to offer free English classes to the unemployed women in the neighborhood of Sokolović Kolonija towards reaching SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 5 (Gender Equality).

ELS teachers Amina Sadiković, Slobodanka Antonić and Mehtap Özer Isović created and led the project as well teaching throughout the course. Also, ELS teachers Elvedina Omeragić and Merima Bečić kindly assisted by teaching the participants.

The English classes were held at ELS between 22nd May, 2023 and 16th June, 2023. The course ended with a certificate ceremony in which the participants who completed the course were presented their certificates of attendance by Ms. Sibela Beširević, Deputy Director of IUS Life and their teachers.

With this project, we aimed to empower such unemployed women to find better jobs in the future with their English skills while increasing the visibility of IUS in the immediate environment and also on a bigger scale in Ilidža Municipality and the city of Sarajevo. We are planning to continue such projects in the upcoming academic year aiming at a wider section of the local community to reach more women.
