Final ELS Summer School 2023 Completed with Flying Colors

International University of Sarajevo (IUS) English Language School (ELS) successfully completed this year’s last Summer School that lasted from July 31 to August 24, 2023. On Friday, August 25, 2023, the ELS Summer School high school students were awarded certificates for successful completion of an intensive English language course at ELS.

The ceremony was attended by His Excellency Turkish Ambassador to BiH, Mr. Sadık Babür Girgin, Mayor of Gaziosmanpaşa Municipality, Mr. Hasan Tahsin Usta, Deputy Mayor of Gaziosmanpaşa Municipality, Mr. Ahmet Bülbül, President of Foundation for Education Development (SEDEF), Mr. Hasan Topaloğlu, IUS Secretary General, Mr. İbrahim İnal, IUS Vice-Rector for General Affairs, Assoc. Prof. Muhammed Yasir Göz, MA, Deputy Director of SEDEF Foundation, Mr. Armin Kerić, Executive Director of SEDEF Bosnia d.o.o., Mr. Senad Hodžić, Assistant to Executive Director of SEDEF Bosnia d.o.o., Mr. Metin Karaman, ELS Director, Ms. Hilal Karić, ELS Deputy Director, Ms. Azra Radaslić, as well as ELS Summer School teachers and students.

The esteemed quests, Mayor of Gaziosmanpaşa Municipality, Mr. Hasan Tahsin Usta delivered an inspiring speech to the students encouraging them to continue their pursuit for knowledge and emphasizing the importance of education. His speech was followed by a brief address by His Excellency Turkish Ambassador to BiH, Mr. Sadık Babür Girgin who also thanked the University for providing such a great learning opportunity to high school students from Turkiye. Moreover, students Hatice Reyyan Özkan from Kartal Anadolu İmam Hatip High School (Istanbul), Selman Emre Samat from Selçuklu Anadolu High School (Konya) and Yağmur Tilaver from Gaziosmanpaşa High School (Istanbul) shared their experience during the Summer School 2023 and expressed their gratitude to the ELS teachers who brought the learning of English language to a new and more advanced level. They were impressed with the lessons they received as well as the new cities they visited.

This ELS Summer School was attended by 19 students from Kartal Imam Hatip Anadolu Lisesi, 37 high school students from Gaziosmanpaşa Municipality and 38 high school students Selçuklu Municipality and 6 students who individually registered from different high schools from Turkiye. In total over 100 students have successfully completed their programs at A1, A2, B1, B2 levels this month. IUS and ELS owe special thanks to the teachers who have done such a wonderful job and provided their full dedication and hard work: Ajdin Spahić, Bisera Pilica Halilović, Emir Šehić, Djana Merčep, Iris Pohara, Jasmina Posković, Melek Šoto, Mirha Neimarlija, Slobodanka Antonić and Zoe Güvener.

Before awarding the certificates, the ceremony attendees had an opportunity to watch a short video with the ELS Summer School 2023 highlights and have a glimpse at the activities the students from Turkiye had at their disposal during their stay at IUS and our country. The certificates of appreciation were also awarded to the students’ mentors without whose effort this intensive English language course would not be the same. Besides learning English and visits to BiH cities and hotspots, this ELS Summer School 2023 also organized sports tournaments in volleyball and football and the winners of these tournaments were awarded medals for their achievement.

The ceremony ended with President of Foundation for Education Development (SEDEF), Mr. Hasan Topaloğlu presenting a token of appreciation to Mayor of Gaziosmanpaşa Municipality, Mr. Hasan Tahsin Usta and the distinguished guests from Turkiye presenting their token of appreciation to His Excellency Turkish Ambassador to BiH, Mr. Sadık Babür Girgin.
